Snape's Memories Changed?

Apparently, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, one of the changes made will be that Snape’s memories won’t show that he was friends with Lily—only that he admired her from afar.

According to JasonAnderson (fellow member on HPF who can't create his own thread, he's a junior member,) a twitter/tumblr website called HP Secrets is spreading this around and much of the site's fan base for Harry Potter has seen it and is getting pissed.

What do you guys think? Is this true? Would you be happy about the change?

I've heard the same, the whole mudblood thing has been excluded, there is not really much of a relationship between the two, no argument etc, I'll see how it works out in the film.

I don't mind that. The important part is that we know that he cared for her and she didn't return his feelings.

    ^Yes.
    I think it'll be fine.

How the hell is Jason still a junior member? I'll never know, but anyway... i'm not particularly happy about this, one to many change's for me!

    Exactly.

I wish they'd done Snape's Worst Memory justice to begin with, but never mind.

I'm ok with that, it simplifies the story but still keeps the whole "Snape loves Lily" idea.

:-D You could just argue that all the films are basically 2 hour visual summaries of the books anyway.

    @chace

That isn't even what i'm refering to, what i am saying is... ever since HBP, they seem to enjoy changing how something or other work's, and making it much simpler. A major example is: The Horcrux explanation by Dumbledore, but so many more could be added to that.

They show Snape and Lily when they are little kids and they're friends. Lily goes to Gryffindor and she starts distancing herself from Snape, not that she wants to, but they've got different friends etc. Snape looks at her from afar. So it's still there that he cares for her and loves her. I think they said that there is a scene where Lily and James are dancing and Snape looks at her from afar and he's quiet and sad. Then we've got all the scenes with the Potters death, Dumbledore etc. I think that the important part is there. Snape loved Lily. They were friends, but Snape had deeper feelings for her. When Voldemort is about to kill the Potters, he's crying and pleading Dumbledore to help them. Then, when he sees her dead body he cradles her in his arms and cries. He even makes the Silver Doe for her. I think that it's going to be pretty clear that Snape was in love with her. I'm not disappointed that they cut Snape's worst memory. I thought it was one of the weakest moments in OotP and I'm not just talking about the editing of that scene in the film.
After all, the test-screeners said this was one of the best moments in the series and Alan Rickman is supposed to have given a fantastic performance, so I think it'll be really good despite the 'Mudblood' scene cut.

I heard that they are friends, nothing more. At the beginning of it, they hang out by the lakeside and all. Then when she's sorted, he just admires her.

Um there were nothing more than friends in the book, as well. Snape loved her, Lily didn't.

Stafford, who said that you were complaining?

No one did, i just assumed, and clearly i was wrong in doing so... that you're previous post was directed at me and my previous comment.

People who have seen the film said that Snape's memories is one of, if not the best sequence in the entire film.

    Yet, here we are. *golfclap*

That doesn't mean that it will not come with it's weak point's, like all scene's in every film ever made.

If you look for weak points in anything you will certainly find them.

Yes, you surely will. You'd be hard pressed to find anything at all without them, other than maybe Emma Watson... i can't see anything bad about her, and anytime i do hear something bad about her is always a pile of shite!

I think that the memory won't show that they are close friends of any sort. It is more that they know each other. I am fine with it, but i hate Snape's storyline so i don't really care.
  • blackvenomblackvenom Posts: 3,257
I think it shows that they were indeed close friends in the beginning. There's a scene in the field, another under a tree, they're together on Hogwarts Express and during the Sorting scene. I think that Lily will be shown being friends with the Gryffindors, so their friend relationship will become more and more distant, but Snape will always be admiring her afar etc. I like it. And I can't wait for Rickman's performance.

How could you possibly know that without seeing the film? Again everyone is saying it's one of the best parts of the movie. I'm PRETTY SURE they'll show that.

You're getting overly upset over inconclusive evidence and fan meanderings.

This proves how pathetic the fanbase can be at times. Even though this was said to be the best sequence of the movie theres always gonna be things to bitch about. get over it
