Epic and scale, down right in tone, and finally knowing when to put all the stops out, Deathly Hallows Part 2 concludes the Harry Potter franchise on the highest note of exceptional work by David Yates and a more then satisfying ending for even the most diehard fans of the series. Rowling would be proud.

    Just a quick flashback:

    Philosopher's Stone (78%)

"Being so faithful to the book is both the movie's strength and weakness. The movie unfolds exactly as written in the book, so there is little room for surprises or discoveries. For Potter fans, what more can you ask for?"

    Chamber of Secrets (83%)

"Darker and livelier than the first Harry Potter, but much of what's wrong with the first movie is also present here."

    Prisoner of Azkaban (90%)

"In Cuaron's hands, Azkaban has emotional depth to go along with the technical wizardry."

    Goblet of Fire (88%)

"The main characters are maturing, and the filmmakers are likewise improving on their craft; vibrant special effects and assured performances add up to what is the most complex yet of the Harry Potter films."

    Order of the Phoenix (78%)

"It's not easy to take the longest Harry Potter book and streamline it into the shortest HP movie, but director David Yates does a bang up job of it, creating an Order of the Phoenix that's entertaining and action-packed."

    Half-Blood Prince (83%)

"Dark, thrilling, and occasionally quite funny, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is also visually stunning and emotionally satisfying."

    Deathly Hallows Part 1 (79%)

"It can't help but feel like the prelude it is, but Deathly Hallows: Part I is a beautifully filmed, emotionally satisfying penultimate installment for the Harry Potter series."

It's funny, I prefer the lower rated ones for the most part lolz.

    1. Half-Blood Prince (83%)
    2. Deathly Hallows Part 1 (79%)
    3. Prisoner of Azkaban (90%)
    4. Order of the Phoenix (78%)
    5. Philosopher's Stone (78%)
    6. Goblet of Fire (88%)
    7. Chamber of Secrets (83%)

I doubt Part 2 will overtake Goblet and Prisoner, I'd like to see it overtake Chamber and Half-Blood though. My guess is it'll probably be rated somewhere between 80-84%. It'd be awesome if it reached the 90's but I can't see it happening.

:-)) Well I've learnt to lower my expectations after the highly disappointing Part 1 reception. In this same thread last time people were excited, screaming 90% here, and "this will be the best reviewed" there, and the truth is it was one of the worst received of the series with many reviewers calling it the worst of the lot, tedious, dull and difficult to follow. Now I expect this one to get better reviews than Part 1 simply because it's more action packed and has a faster pace, which some reviewers seem to dig (look at the reviews for Goblet of Fire). More happens, basically. But I expect a lot of confusion over the Elder Wand allegiance, horcruxes and Hallows, the two-way mirror etc ,simply because the majority of critics aren't as invested in the story. I highly doubt they'll be rewatching the Half-Blood Prince and Part 1 a few days before seeing the last film. Yates's films on the whole haven't been accepted well, the Columbus films attached a reputation to the series as light-hearted children's fantasy films and when the comedy disappears, and the darkness takes over, many are left feeling disappointed by the lack of "magic" and "fun". Well I can't see Part 2 being particularly whimsical, with death and destruction abound at Hogwarts. If we look at the instalments with the least amount of comedy, magic, and fun factor there is a trend in scores. Ultimately, I don't really give a fuck, I will enjoy this film, as I have enjoyed the other seven. The only review I care about is my own.

I think we do forget that amidst the criticism Part 1 did get, it still was overall well recieved. I know critics called had their complaints (namely, not enough happened, too slow in some areas), but funnily enough, everyone who I have talked to IRL (casual movie goers) really liked the film and was excited for Part 2. And these are teenagers.

I think cutting a lot of exposition on the Hallows was good. I think that would rely too much on past films and small details, so I can see why they don't explain the cloak. I think the Elder Wand allegience, if done right, should be fairly understandable. They should go through with adding a flashback showing all the changes in allegience since the end of HBP. Have we been told to what extent the backstory of the ring/ressurection stone is explained? I can't remember.

Horcruxes are easy enough, IMO. I think they should have better established how many there were and how the trio knew that, but overall I think it'll be fine. I think most audiences understood that they are basically objects they have to destroy so they can beat Voldemort.

Once Part Two comes out and the critics look at Part One with clarity; I'm sure they'll take their comments.
