Just for contrast: two things I don't like about the trailer.

Why the fuck is Ron just standing there while there's obviously some intense fighting going on?

Molly seems to be showing very little emotion here, and while Rupert is usually the weakest link, he's giving something amazing looking here.

Now, sure. It's out of context and they're short clips, so perhaps the final film will put these things to rest. It's just something that really stuck out to me.

It's possible that Molly is bottling up her emotions to support her other children as they grieve, but unleashes them on Bellatrix. Thoughts?

Right now those scenes are too short to judge. I'm sure those will be great when we see the film.

    My complaints:

    - I didn't like the choice of the scenes at the beggining of the trailer. They are totally out of context.
    - Voldemort's voice sounds like Jigsaw's voice.
    - Not sure what to think about the VFX. If you watch in HD, some scenes look kinda odd.
    - Hated the fall from the cliff. Totally awkward and stupid. I was expecting something weird, but it is much worse than I thought.

    The rest? AWESOME!

That's funny, I love the scenes at the beginning of the trailer precisely because they're totally out of context. They're simple beautiful images only mega fans really know the importance of.

in the first pic, what is ron doing? '... he doesn't look engaged.

i was kinda of hoping the test screeners would score harry's line "we'll end this they way we started, together..: " so low that the filmmakers would cut the line, or have dan re-dub it.... it's so hollywood. that's my least favorite part.

I agree, stinka. Really, really, really cliché.

I don't see how it's cliche at all. Again I'll mention that this isn't a side of Harry that we have ever seen before. In many ways it completely mirrors his attitude toward "Tom" at the end of the book, only it's more cinematic/dramatic. And it's not really fair at all to play the "Hollywoodized" card, because saying that something has been Hollywoodized is another way of saying "turned into something cinematic." And, yeah. It's a film adaptation from a giant film studio. Of course it's "Hollywoodized," but I think it has its own merits.

    I loved all of it.
I really like how fierce Harry says 'together' too! <3

Exactly. Radcliffe does very very well there, like he's gaining some control of the situation and knows what he has to do. To me it feels like he's trying to go beyond just killing Voldemort for all the pain and suffering that he has caused Harry his entire life-- he's got Voldemort in this exposed and compromised situation. It's almost like Harry is trying to make Voldemort ever regret starting any shit with him. That's what I like about it.
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User] Posts: 7,344 ✭✭✭✭
^Yes. All good points. I love that idea that he's trying to make LV regret.
It's going to be an epic scene between the two!

  • Molly already saw Fred dead. Ron is seeing for the first time in the Great Hall. (that explains the little emotion)

And Ron is seeing Hermione grab something, that's the reason he is standing without move.

You don't just cry once when your son or daughter has been murdered.

Plus, he does appear to be quite brainless in the movies, always taking a back seat (quite literally) to Harry and Hermione. We can blame Kloves for that.

I'm not saying it sucks. Not even really complaining. I just think that Molly should be more torn up about it. And like I said, maybe she's just keeping her emotions at bay to support her children as they see Fred,
  • blackvenomblackvenom Posts: 3,257
Didn't the test-screeners say that we see the Weasleys crying and then Ron enters the Great Hall and sees the dead body of Fred and breaks down completely? I'm not worried about this scene. ;)

Now, concerning the Great Hall fight scene, Ron looks stoned. We've got to see this in context, because it does look weird. But that's a great shot, anyway.

Thats probably just something the editors had fun with. I chuckled a bit. Surprised its cringe worthy.

And the music was similar to the Dark Knight's at that point I think. :P I didn't find it cringe-worthy, I found it really fun.

Same here. I didn't like it, although it was a fantastic shot, I thought it was really cringe-worthy.

The way it was edited was 'cringe-worthy'. 'Night' cut to a Knight. :P But the shot is fantastic. It seems that even the very first scenes of Hogwarts will be really amazing.

I think it's difficult to tell because Molly's head is slightly hanging down. However, since she was probably in the Great Hall before the trio arrived for some time, she kind of looks...almost paralyzed to me, in the sense that her face is frozen with the shock of seeing her son. I trust Julie as an actress to utterly sell the moment.

Same. She may still be in shock, she may be appearing strong for her kids, she may be angry. Depends on what stage of grief she is in. I also trust her to sell it.

Yes, but anyway, Ron is the focus in his scene, not Molly.
That shouldn't mean that no one else shows extreme emotion, its her son.

So? There's no universal way for a mother to process grief. Some weep openly and extremely; others are just paralyzed; some are accustomed to being the strong one so they try to compose themselves. If we were talking about an amateur, untested actress I would indeed be worried, but Julie is an old pro here.
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User] Posts: 7,344 ✭✭✭✭
^Agreed. Molly is a strong character and Julie Walters has played the role so well. I have no worries about any of her scenes.
  • GinaCGinaC Posts: 828 ✭✭
Yeah, I don't have any doubt that Julie Walters will nail it. She was probably trying to compose herself for Ron who had just come on the scene, but I'm sure she will break our hearts. This was her boggart, after all!

I think the knights look great!!
The only problem I have with the trailer doesn't even have to do with the shots we've seen as a whole. I think everything looks great!
The Voldemort screaming 4x in the same voice was annoying lol And I think there are shots that may not be completely finished yet, and that's expected.
The Harry/Voldemort fall I think needs a little work in effects and at the end the shot of all the DEs breaking the protection looks a little fake.
And I am just nitpicking those 3 things. I LOVE the trailer!

Okay, another thing I wasn't fond of was the music choice (other than the first few seconds).

It just didn't wow me in the same way The End of Days did for example. Only a minor thing, though.

I'm sorry darth did you say RUPERT is usually the weakest link? That is really the strangest thing I have ever heard. Dan has turned in mediocre to cringe-worthily awful performances in all of the first six movies, Emma didn't turn in one decent performance until movie 6 before that she was also incredibly cringworthy. Rupert is the only one who has appeared consistantly natural, and you say HE is the weakest link. I'm sorry, that's just plain absurd.

He is the weak link (more Ron than Rupert) when it comes down to a scene when he isn't using dialogue, he just stands there with a gormless expression... perhaps Kloves is to blame though.

Nah that's down to directing and the blocking of the scene. Ever noticed how in OOTP if someone isn't doing anything in a scene they just stand around looking awkward? It's especially noticeable in the scene when Dumbledore escapes. Fudge, Umbridge and Dawlish just stand there because Yates has given them nothing to do whatsoever. It's down to blocking, and that's down to Yates. So if anything, he should be blamed.

  • Lord StaffordLord Stafford Posts: 27,353 ✭✭✭✭✭
Oh, i know that Yates is at least partially to blame... but as you may or may or have seen, whenever i even mention his name in a less than godly light, i get a barrage of kiss asses riling against me!?

Totally agree. Some effects look fake. But I think everything is completely finished. Remember when everyone was complaining about Dumbledore's tomb? That it was unfinished in the trailer and, actually, it was finished?

For me, VFX has always been the Achilles' heel of the saga. COF... COF... GRAWP...

  • SwedishSkinJerSwedishSkinJer Posts: 1,053 ✭✭✭
I just watched the scene of Dumbledore's escape on YouTube, and they appear to be standing there because they're listening to what Dumbledore is saying, but if you look closely it's very noticeable that they are closely moving forward. It's freakin' Dumbledore, so caution is most wise.

Anyway, I think it's equally as unfounded to call people who disagree with you "kiss asses" because I have seen arguments erupt on here simply over the matter of disagreeing, not the content of how we engage with different opinions.
  • Lord StaffordLord Stafford Posts: 27,353 ✭✭✭✭✭
Grawp was probs the worst bit of VFX i've ever seen in a blockbuster film.
