HP7 as epic as we think?

Ok I know to us its going to be epic beyond believe but my question is this: Will it be epic and amazing to those who only see the films? I mean they are showing a sneek peak of a conversation, why not show something action packed? Something at gringotts? I know its going to be great but im not too sure as great as I want it to be,my expectations for DH1 were high VERY high and that was my mistake. I thought it would be the best film ever LOL. Im thinking DH2 is going to be the best film ever but I dont really want to think that.....So now i will lower my expectations. Just see it with an open mind, and enjoy it.

Good to know you've caught on.

Of course it won't be the best film ever, but they won't show action sequences in depth (at least, I hope not) because there is only so much action the film can offer, and they don't want to spoil it all. Trust me, it will be "grand and operatic" but go into it with lower expectations and come out mindblown.

I had pretty high expectations for DH1, and the movie lived up to my expectations. I loved it. Everything I have seen so far from Pt 2 looks and sounds incredible.

As for the sneak peek, I'd rather they showed us just a conversation. I want them to keep action packed scenes for the cinema. I wouldnt watch any action packed scene that was released online anyway - I didnt for Pt 1 and I think that I enjoyed the movie a lot more because of that. By the time DH1 was released, it was like half of the movie was online.

I just hope nothing gets leaked for part 2.

It'll be epic for a Harry Potter film. To me, LOTR is an epic film. Harry Potter, again to me, is not on the same epic level as say LOTR. It's just not that kind of movie. But for what HP is, I think Part 2, will be a big grand finale. I honestly hope they don't go showing us a ton of battle/fighting footage. I'm really debating whether or not I want to see footage this time around, again. I mean, I kind of agree with BlackCatScott. I think I enjoyed part 1 more because I didn't know everything that was coming up. It was mostly all new to me.

I had the same experience as BlackCatScott in that I was not disappointed in Part 1. I thought it was such a great adaptation, the acting was great with a great score...don't know what more I could have asked! If they are as true to the book and do as good of an adaptation for part 2, I will be one happy camper. The big action/battle scenes aren't what turns me on anyway. I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan, and though the epic battles were mind-blowing, I loved the more quiet, emotional parts. I know, maybe it's just 'cause I'm a girl.... ;-) But still, I think people will be very impresed!

Edit: Too funny, Muggle! You posted while I was typing mine, and it looks like we were thinking the exact same thing! :)

^Exactly. I mean, I do like a good battle and lots of action (I'm a girl too), but the quiet emotional moments also add so much to the story. Like in Part 1, while I did enjoy Bathilda Bagshot/Nagini sequence in a Godrics Hollow, the moments leading up to that where they visit Harry's parents grave.....that moment was very overwhelming for me. Seeing Harry finally standing at his parents grave, he finally gets to see where it all happened and where his parents were laid to rest. It was an emotional scene for me. I cried.

Yeah I just think DH1 needed longer action sequences but everything else was great!

For me, it's all about these characters. The characters that I have grown up reading about, seeing in the films, and then seeing them turn in to heroes in this final showdown. To me that is epic, but to the casual viewer? Probably not so much. If people are going in to 7.2 expecting an action blockboster flick then I think they'll be disappointed.

Like anything it just boils down to what you think about the story, characters, subject matter, and source material.

For me, the last book was the best, most emotional and intense bit of storytelling I've ever happened upon. Even greater than Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc. I just connected with the characters more than anything and all the emotional beats had me crying like a sissy.

Part 1 wasn't ever meant to be an action film. It has action, but not much less than the book. Part 1 is a character piece, a character journey. It's about people in a crazy situation trying to figure out what they have to do. It's a sense of discovery with peril around every corner.

Don't think of Part 1 as some kind of crazy epic. It's not. It's far more epic than the other films so far-- they're not at Hogwarts, they're on the road, looking for clues, answers, anything. The odds are not in their favor whatsoever.

Part 2 is where most of the action will be, but as I've said, and as the writer and director has said, it sticks to the book and thus, it's more about the emotion. Rowling was smart to stay honed-in on the actual character development because emotion far outweighs action, always. Never an exception. If you're emotionally invested in something, you take more out of it. Plain and simple.

Part 2 will have fighting and escapes on dragons and a final confrontation between hero and villain, and a far bigger scope than any of the other films. The problem is that the word "epic" is so overrated to the point of sickness. Epic doesn't have to entail how gigantic a battle is. It's epic because we've been following this story for so long, just waiting for the final standoff between Harry and Voldemort.

That's what makes it epic-- that sense of finality and all the incredible emotional moments that lead up to it. Stop wanting Harry Potter to be Saving Private Ryan or Gladiator. It's not like that at all. It never was. Expectations and needing absolutely everything to be "epic" is what brings people down on the quality of the film, not the quality of the film itself.

I don't know about you, but while Part 1 wasn't as "epic" as an actual "epic," it still trounced every film I saw last year in terms of creativity, set design, music, action, and so on. It still remains one of the most well-made fantasy pictures I've ever seen. Drop the need for every frame to be OMG THE MOST EPIC FUCKING SHIT EVER HOLY OMG and get a grasp on what Harry Potter's really always been all about.

i wonder when they start releasing tv spots and clips if they will show any battle sequences or keep them under wraps untill the movie is out?

I just hope we don't get to see every single action scene prior to the damn premiere(like with Part 1).

Based on knowing WB, we'll get a little, then in June we'll have enough BoH footage

I agree with those who say that Part 1 was never going to be this "epic action film".

dont expect part 2 to be a full scale action film either i expect the action scenes to be on par with part 1 which is fine with me.

Yes Part 1 is as epic as we thought. I loved every moment of the film. It was an amazing adaption from the book. I couldn't of asked for better. Amazing script, score, performance by the cast and crew, just everything was spot on. I had my hopes high and they didn't disappoint. In fact, it was better then I thought it would be. I love Deathly Hallows Part 1 and I think it's the greatest movie ever made. :)
