John Rhys-Davies did an AWESOME job as Gimli. is he in? what about the 12 dwarves? would he play 12 roles?

No he isn't, rabastan... as he didn't want to wear the "horrible" make up again, which was more like paper mache than make up, because it increased his head side... that was already quite huge!
I read the book last december. It's great and hugely entertaining, but I don't think there's enough material there to make two movies.
They are going to add many things, obviously, since many of the LotR actors have been confirmed even though they do not appear in 'The Hobbit' book. Can't wait
yea i think the Hobbit movie will DIFFER GREATLY from the book. there putting charecters in it such as Frodo in it who as i understand it arent even born yet. so im not sure how good of an adaptation it will be.
yeah remember that bilbo at the end of ROTK gives him the book 'there and back again', which is 'the hobbit' book itself, so maybe he starts reading it, or he is some kind of relator.. and yes I agree there isn't enough material to two movies. so that means two things to me, it's gonna be extremely faithful and they'll add subplots to explain unsaid things in LOTR, which it was said somewhere

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. New Line Cinema/MGM didn't release this, Peter Jackson himself did. David Heyman or David Yates cares very much about Harry Potter, but that has nothing to do with how early they want to show us sneak peeks of production. Each director/producer is entitled to their own personal preference, though I do prefer Peter's preference of giving us very early sneak peeks.

I was more thinking the amount of behind the scenes stuff.

I think there is a difference though. Because Peter Jackson made the video but anything he shoots the studio would have a say over. WB could work with the producers to make stuff like this happen. Its more publicity and we all know thats a good thing. I do think its a preference thing but its a missed opportunity for promotion.
They behind the scenes stuff for LOTR was fantastic and I would love it if HP produced that much.
I hope Jackson will do a good job... it will be EXTREMELY difficult to surpass LOTR... I will say my real idea of the film when the first trailer will come out!!

He'll do a great job. The thing is that the story isn't NEARLY as good as LOTR.
I, for one, can not believe they decided to make this film into TWO FULL-LENGTH parts. There's not enough material or substance, IMO.
Jackson is awesome. Pure awesome. And they're doing two Hobbit movies, aren't they? After the LOTR films ended I had a short emotional crisis. I feel oddly relieved and excited. Sometimes I find myself wishing that just as much care was given to the HP series. Not to say the movies aren't great, because they are ... It's just that Jackson is... Waaaay more committed than 90% of directors. And it shows.
Just bumping this thread up to clarify some things. The reason this is being made into two films, is because they are making two distinct separate films. The first is " The Hobbit ", the second film has always been spoken about as " the bridge film ", no title has been given to it ....yet. In this bridge film, they will show Gollums escape, the hunt for him, and Gandalf and the fight in Dol Guldur, and will tie it in to the beginning of Fellowship of the Ring.
So, they are not really adding things to The Hobbit, but adding in many many details and story lines from the appendices and other writings of Tolkien to bridge the films together.

It'd be so cool to live in a Hobbit like house but bigger LOL. I just love the design of them.
C'mon, Peter Jackson, bring us another masterpiece *-* :O
If only WB cared this much about HP.
