no love for desplat???????????? oh well mayb part 2 but GO for visual effects (i dunno much about what they look for in the art direction award so....)
Deathly Hallows, Shutter Island and 127 Hours have a far better cinematography than The King's Speech. I didn't say it's bad, it's wonderful actually. But there are films with better cinematography. But I accept this nomination. What about The Social Network? LOL
Yeah and WHAT ABOUT THE FU**ING CINEMATOGRAPHY IN THE SOCIAL NETWORK???? IT WAS EXTREMELY ORDINARY... DID THE ACADEMY JUST SAW THE LAST SCENE WHERE HARRY AND DOBBY ARE ON THE BEACH? IT'S SPEECHLESS!
And Harry Potter should have been nominated for Sound Mixing and/or Sound Editing, Best Original Score and Best Make Up
Best original score for The Social Network (the cheesy five piano notes that we heard during all the movie) over a wonderful, original and poignant score for Harry Potter?? Let me piss in my pants XD
-Black Swan snubbed in Best Original Screenplay -Christopher Nolan snubbed in Best Directing and Inception snubbed in Best Film Editing -Lesley Manville snubbed -Ryan Gosling snubbed -Andrew Garfield snubbed -Deathly Hallows snubbed in Cinematography, Sound and Score -TRON snubbed in Visual Effects and Art Direction -Shutter Island, The Ghost Writer, Scott Pilgrim and Never Let Me Go completely snubbed
Aside from these I'm happy for: -Winter's bone for BP -Michelle Williams -John Hawkes -Javier Bardem -Another Year's Best Screenplay nod -Deathly Hallows scoring 2 nominations -Hailee Steinfield
So we have:
PHILOSOPHER'S STONE: 3 nominations | Best Original Score | Best Art Direction | Best Costume Design CHAMBER OF SECRETS: 0 nominations PRISONER OF AZKABAN: 2 nominations | Best Original Score | Best Visual Effects GOBLET OF FIRE: 1 nomination | Best Art Direction ORDER OF THE PHOENIX: 0 nominations HALF-BLOOD PRINCE: 1 nomination | Best Cinematography DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1: 2 nominations | Best Art Direction | Best Visual Effects
I'm happy that DH got 2 nominations...I'd like it to get 3 more (especially Cinematography), but it's better than nothing. 2 nominations since 2004 with PoA. And in two very competitive categories. That's good. Let's see how many nods Part II will grab.
I think is great Deathly Hallows has two nominations. The Visual Effects nomination is well but I expected that they nominated for the great score and not for the art department.
In my opinion the score is great, it had not a big role in the movie but it was present at the same time (not the extreme of HBP or COS)
I think Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II will have nominations in: Best Visual Effects Best Art Direstion Best Music Score Best Sound Mixing Best Cinematography Best Make Up Best Costume Design (maybe) Best Picture (maybe not but certainly have a chance)
You think they know both Serra and Desplat will have their work shown in Part 2, so they figured they will wait for next year to give both noms(and wins )?
The kings speech is way overrated. Its a great film, nothing OMFG! THAT WAS AWESOME! I was expecting Black swan to get more noms, but oh well. And Inception is overrated, I can't believe the acclaim and noms it's getting.
Jason exactly... I think that the Academy knows that Desplat and Serra will work on Part II which will be the Oscar-bait film of the franchisee. They preferred nominating Desplat for his King's Speech score, due to the Oscar-bait and the same thing happened with the Social Network and King's Speech Cinematography nods. I think that DH1 was very close to top 5 in both categories, but just missed them. I think they wait for Part II. :-)
I agree with you, blackvenom. And i also think that Rickman and Fiennes could be nominated for best actor and best supporting actor. So, DH2 could reach 9 nominations: Vfx, sound, cinematography, score, make up, art direction, sound mixing, best actor [Ralph Fiennes] and best supporting actor [Alan Rickman]

I would like that. Snape does have a bigger role in DH2, so it's possible. And if what people on set said about Fiennes performance during the battle is true, I can see that as well.
From the both of them, Rickman has a better chance though.

What's been said about Ralph's performance?
When he gives his 'speeches', everyone on set was frozen with awe. Something like that, don't quote me. :P
-No directing nomination for Nolan?! What a bunch of B.S. Well, I'll just keep reminding myself they never recognized Hitchcock either.
-LOVE the strong presence of True Grit, though the somewhat unexpected direction nom for the Coens comes at the expense of Nolan.
-Sad to see Affleck's great work for The Town snubbed. I knew a directing nom was a longshot, but really thought it was gonna get in there for picture. Instead they went for the over-rated critical darling Winter's Bone, which got none of the guild precursor nominations btw...ugh
-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 got a couple nominations; best art direction and visual effects Would've liked to seen it for score and cinematography also, but can't have everything now, can we?
Nolan not being nominated is criminal. I guess Inception directed itself. (shame).
Also for score, I would have voted for the one in black swan, that piano alone pretty much scared the crap out of me...
It´s amazing im very happy i only wanted cinematography too but seriously well done DH!!! And on other terms i was very pleased with the actor noms and also BIUTIFUL, México!!! BRAVO mexico eres lo mejor yo sabia que algun día llegaríamos WE HOPE TO WIN!

But anyway
2 Oscar nominations!
That's good.
THE SOCIAL NETWORK is nominated for Best Cinematography?
Over Potter, 127 Hours and Shutter Island?
WTF.
I didn't say it's bad, it's wonderful actually. But there are films with better cinematography.
But I accept this nomination.

And How to Train Your Dragon got nominated for Original Score.
AND Inception + Andrew Garfield were snubbed. Wow.
best effects
art direction
score
and best picture
In my opinion the score is great, it had not a big role in the movie but it was present at the same time (not the extreme of HBP or COS)
But I have a feeling it won't
I think Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II will have nominations in:
Best Visual Effects
Best Art Direstion
Best Music Score
Best Sound Mixing
Best Cinematography

CINEMATOGRAPHY?!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
G.G.

(Listen to this epic win in film score)
and then listen to this
IS THE ACADEMY DEAF!
Mysterious thing time.
And on other terms i was very pleased with the actor noms and also BIUTIFUL, México!!! BRAVO mexico eres lo mejor yo sabia que algun día llegaríamos WE HOPE TO WIN!
Hope you like it!
