Unanswered questions about HP saga

In this topic we can put the questions that Rowling didn´t give an answer about HP life, his predecessors or succesors. We can also solve the doubts of the person who hasn´t got all the dates and share opinions. For example a list of questions (a part from HarryLatino, MuggleNet, HPF and another part from my ideas):

1)How the wizards invent his spells?
2)Has Harry ever visited the Snape portrait?
3)Which are the twelve uses of dragon blood?
4)What did Dumbledore do during the 24 hours in which Harry was taken to Privet Drive?
5)Who are the Hogwarts teachers married? Have they children?
6)What happened to Dean after the Battle of Hogwarts?
7)How much tickets cost to the World Cup?
8)What happens to little witches and wizards that are born with disabilities (not necessarily mental)?
9)Was Snape ever dating anyone?
10)What happened with Snape body after he died? Did they brought him back to Hogwarts?
11)Will Hermione and Ron be remembered as important historical figures, along with Harry in the wizarding world?
12) What are the names of Hermione's parents?
13) At Which houses did the next generation enter? Did ASP enter at Gryffindor or Slytherin?

    Good thread!

    My question are:
    1. Were the teachers had other places to stay when they're not in Hogwarts?
    2. Was Snape ever dating anyone?
    3. Was Snape having insomnia? (I know it's a silly question, but I wonder about that when I watch POA. I mean did he just happen just to walk around the hall in the middle of the night, when he saw Harry?)
    4. How many teachers of Defence Against The Dark Art Hogwarts ever had?
    5. Did Hermione ever reunite with her parents?
    6. What happened with Snape body after he died? Did they brought him back in Hogwarts?
    7. Why some comeback as Ghost, but some didn't (this is probably in the book, but I didn't remember)
    8. Why Hogwarts pictures and painting could talk and the others can't (For example Harry's parents).
    9. Why not Dumbledore give his picture to Harry along with his will, so he COULD advice them what to do?
    10. Would Moaning Myrtle always be Hogwarts ghost forever?

If some of my question already answered in a book, please do let me know. I am not English native speaker (I am sure you can tell), but since Order of the Phoenix, I had to read those in English.

    1) Their houses ha.
    4) We don´t know (I doubt Rowling knows that) but Galatea was fifty years as teacher before Voldemort makes his "curse".
    5) Yes she did.
    8) Because one are pictures or photographs and others are portraits (this can talk)
    9) Because he has to give his portrait not his picture.

    1. Yes, they did have their own houses. We already know that Snape lived at Spinner's End.

    2. No, I don't think so.

    4. Well, we know about Merrythought, Quirell, Lockhart, Lupin, Moody, Umbridge, and Snape. There was probably another teacher who held the position for thirty years before Voldemort cursed it.

    3. He was probably patrolling the castle at night to check if any student was out of bed.

    5. Yes, she did.

    6. He was probably buried at Hogwarts.

    7. People who're scared of death, come back as ghosts. People who're not afraid to die, "move on".

    8. Portraits can talk, pictures can't. That is why you never see pictures in the Daily Prophet talking, they just move.

    9. Firstly, a picture can only move. Portraits can talk. And secondly, Dumbledore would've wanted Harry to figure out stuff by himself. If he wanted to advice him, he would've given him exact instructions BEFORE he died.

    10. Yes, she will.

    Thank you slantee2006 ;-)

Though I have a little problem with "Dumbledore would've wanted Harry to figure out stuff by himself." Because this such dangerous time involving Voldemort and MANY people could die, he should give the direction as clear as possible.

Of course, it would be less interesting, if everything was so direct.

I have invented an answer for that question:

The direct reply: As you said, it would be less interesting and too easy for Harry.
JK answer: How will Harry enter to Hogwarts and talk with Dumbledore´s portrait?

So delete the direct reply and you have the true answer.

  • SlanteeSlantee Posts: 2,355 ✭✭✭
See, Dumbledore wouldn't have been of any help as far as Horcruxes were concerned cause he already told Harry what he knew.

Now, as far as the Deathly Hallows concerned, here's a quote from "King's Cross" :

“Can you forgive me?” he said. “Can you forgive me for not trusting you? For not telling you? Harry, I only feared that you would fail as I had failed. I only dreaded that you would make my mistakes. I crave your pardon, Harry. I have known, for some time now, that you are the better man.”

So, Dumbledore did not want Harry to have clear instructions about the Hallows. He wanted him to figure it out by himself.
    image
  • SlanteeSlantee Posts: 2,355 ✭✭✭
    Also, this:

"I was scared that, if presented outright with the facts about those tempting objects, you might seize the Hallows as I did, at the wrong time, for the wrong reasons. If you laid hands on them, I wanted you to possess them safely."

He knew that Harry would figure it out either way, and he wanted him to figure it out as he gone along or he could have possibly just forget about the Horcrux and just went on and try to find the Deathly Hallows.

Remember, Harry is the Master of Death. :)

heres some that has confusion. To let you guys know i didnt read every question so excuse the repeats.

How many students were at hogwarts?
How did they know muggle children would have magical abilities, and how did they find them?
Would Harry become minister?(that would be awesome to see)
What did Luna do after?(it would be great to have her as a teacher)

How many students were at hogwarts?
Roughly 400-500. J.K. Rowling always had trouble with this little tidbit. She's horrible at math.
I think it would depend on whether or not there was an even distribution of each year's students in the four houses. For example, we know that there were five boys (Harry, Ron, Dean, Seamus, and Neville) in Harry's 1st-6th year in the Gryffindor dormitory. So, if there were the same number of girls in Hermione's dormitory, there'd be a total of 10 Gryffindors for that particular year.

    10 students (5 boys + 5 girls) x 7 years = 70 students in one house
    70 students x 4 houses = 280 students

So, I think 280 could be the minimum number of students, but it could be 560 if it was to be doubled.

I remember Dumbledore's portrait telling Snape that he must give the correct date to Voldemort and have Mundungus suggest decoy Harry's. Maybe the Order spoke of it in front of Dumbledore's portrait? Or perhaps they started planning it before Dumbledore's death.

Would Harry become minister?(that would be awesome to see)
Well, as of 2007, he is head of the Auror Dept., and I assume he's still in that position! :) (Nice to know he's protecting us from those dark wizards, isn't it?) Maybe someday he will be Minister! Guess he's a bit young (30 this year, right?) but maybe he won't be as averse to it as Dumbledore was.

I can't see Harry being Minister of Magic! I'm sure he wouldn't accept the job, just like Dumbledore.

Agreed. He was never a fan of politics. His experiences would have put him away from it, even if it was a chance to make a better wizarding world.

I'm surprised Hermione had a job in the justice department. She had a real distaste for it.

She entered in order to put justice :-D. I think Pensieve Seeker is right with the number of students. And Harry will never be minister as you (people) said a few posts before.

I added to the list the unanswered questions and thanks Pensieve Seeker for the information of the dragon blood!

About the eleventh question, I think that they would be recognised at the chromes and would be mention to the books but the glory is for Harry.

Though it does make sense that less children would be in Harry's year because they would've been born during the height of the first war,and I doubt many babies were being born at that time.

For the Ministry I think. The Muggleborns were registred and who were not registred had to be captured (the Hermione´s case) and she is the friend of Harry so everybody knows a lot about her and Ron.
  • The only question I ever wanted to know the answer to in the HP saga is:

What are the names of Hermione's parents?
No, we don't know their real names. But in DH, Hermione modified their memories, and they changed their names in Wendell and Monica Wilkins

    Yes, I know this.

I always use the names Richard and Helen in my fan-fiction.

Helen, because Helen of Troy's daughter was named Hermione, and JK Rowling is a history buff.
    Richard... for really no reason.

Wow, that is an interesting question. I think the Ministry would come to take his body to somewhere in Hogwarts. They'd make sure he'd be treated with respect. As to where they would bury him, I think he'd be laid to rest at Hogwarts. It was his only home since he was a young Child. Ok, he did have his HOUSE to go to during the Summer months, Holidays, etc, but I never got the idea he was welcomed there, was made to feel adored, safe, etc. As morbid as this sounds, I think it would be a constant reminder to the Students about the impact he made on the school. As romantic as the idea of being laid to rest next to Lily sounds, I honestly don't think it would be possible. I don't think he'd get as many visitors. Plus, I got the notion Godrick's Hollow and the Cemetery were James and Lily were laid to rest was more of a tourist destination and a place for curious on-lookers to go than for people to pay their respects to them. Plus, it sort of came across as a place filled with shame. Snape would not want people to gawk at his grave site, have that "The poor, poor man", etc. At least at Hogwarts I get the idea he'd on an even footing with Dumbledore and other Professors who taught there. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve to be buried next to Lily, I just don't see it as a possibility.
There definitely would be some sort of a State Funeral for him, as well as for the others who died fighting the Death Eaters, facing Voldemort, etc. Of course many people would attend his funeral, especially the Students, because regardless of how they felt about him, he was their Professor, a member of the Staff, etc. Yeah, I even see the Malfoys attending the Funeral. He did help Narcissa in Spinners End and did help Draco.

I think there are probably only two places they would bury Snape. Either, in Godric's Hollow or near Dumbledore, because Snape too was a fallen hero/headmaster.

Eh, I read that Dumbledore had been the only head master to be buried on the Hogwarts grounds. Remember Hogwarts has been since the tenth century. Their had to have been hundreds of headmasters. Dumbledore had been headmaster since before Tom Riddle's times I believe. Snape although he was a great man I highly doubt after a year of being Headmaster he would be buried at hogwarts. Sorry :(. Although there is a large possibility he would be buried in Godrics Hollow. But wouldn't that be sort of strange, Snape never grew up in Godric's Hollow so why would he be buried there? Lily? Eh, snape had always loved Lily although she despised him for calling her a mudblood. Also him and James Potter had always been enemies. So I guess you could throw Godrics Hollow out. I guess all we have is Spinner's End.

    ----------------------------------
Also to reply to who would attend his funeral. Yes, I do think a lot of people from Hogwarts would attend. As for the Malfoy's; doubt it. I'm pretty sure Lucius was brought to Azkaban following the Battle of Hogwarts. Although he did help Malfoy, but that was too protect him from Voldemort. I doubt people who would have attended the funeral would have put up with Malfoy there. He was a death eater after all.

hey smiddy dumbledore became headmaster after riddle left. I also think be =cause of snapes part in you know who's demise would earn him a special send off.

I think that was not a funeral for Snape but his body stayed near Dumbledore in Hogwarts. He was not very special but his job as double spy was very useful. No one trust him and he was part of the good side.
