"A SPECIAL effects expert has revealed the truth behind Harry Potter's mysterious Scottish location.

Even the most dedicated fans of the teenage wizard were unable to work out where his mentor Professor Dumbledore was laid to rest.

It turns out his water-surrounded tomb was created by mixing images of TWO real-life Highland lochs - Loch Eilt and Loch Arkaig.

The chilling final scene of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part One amazed many Potter fans when they saw it on screen.Technicians filmed images of a tiny island in Loch Eilt, near Glenfinnan, and superimposed them on to foots age of Loch Arkaig and its mountains - 26 miles away in Lochaber.

Stephen Elson, the managing director of special effects firm Baseblack, told the Sunday Mail: "We used technology to plop the island in Loch Eilt seamlessly into the middle of Loch Arkaig.

"We redressed the island by taking a few trees off and adding a few of our own, while the tomb itself was a computer generated effect.

"The hills and scenery around Loch Arkaig are so spectacular that they appeared in the film just as they are in real life."

In the climactic scene, Harry's arch-enemy Voldemort, played by Ralph Fiennes, breaks open Dumbledore's tomb and steals his powerful Elder Wand - paving the way for the dramatic final film Stephen had been sworn to secrecy about giving away behind-the-scenes information but spoke out now that the film has been released and is riding high at the box office.

Tourism chiefs predict that both lochs will attract followers of JK Rowling's multi-million-selling saga by the coachload.

Stephen agrees, having seen at the film's premiere how much the fans love Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, Hermione - actress Emma Watson - and Rupert Grint as Ron.

He said: "A lot of Americans love to visit every location associated with the films. They are extremely dedicated and spend a lot of time and money travelling around the UK."

Other Scottish locations used in the Harry Potter films include the Glenfinnan viaduct, Cape Wrath, Glencoe and Glen Nevis.

VisitScotland said: "Having Scottish locations such as these lochs used so prominently in the most popular film franchise of all time is the best possible advertisement."

The tourist body's UK counterpart, VisitBritain, recently launched a website aimed at attracting more US fans of the bespectacled wizard."
