“You didn’t see anyone else?”
“No,” said Ron. “I—”
But he hesitated, glancing at two trees growing close together some yards away.
“I did think I saw something move over there, but I was running to the pool at the time, because you’d gone in and you hadn’t come up, so I wasn’t going to make a detour to— [. . .]”

One last time, Rowling draws our attention to the hidden spot beyond our field of vision where Snape’s hidden gaze remains, with all its mystery, inviting us to guess at his observing thoughts and feelings.
Snape’s lingering on after Harry jumped shows that he waited for the successful outcome of the adventure. The fact that Ron saw a movement suggests that Snape was on the point of leaving his hiding spot to go and see what happened to Harry and help him. But Snape must have stopped short upon seeing Ron arrive unexpectedly, and that created the brief movement that Ron noticed."

'How many times do I have to tell you?' said Harry, temper and voice rising. 'It wasnt me! It was a couple of dementors!'
'A couple of - what's this codswallop?'
'De - men - tors,' said Harry slowly and clearly. 'Two of them.'
'And what the ruddy hell are Dementors?'
'They guard the wizard prison, Azkaban,' said Aunt Petunia.
Two seconds of ringing silence followed these words before Aunt Petunia clapped her hand over her mouth as though she had let slip a discusting swear word. Uncle Vernon was goggling at her. Harry's brain reeled. Mrs Figg was one thing - but Aunt Petunia?
'How d'you know that?' he asked her, astonished.
Aunt Petunia looked quite appalled with herself. She glanced at Uncle Vernon in fearful apology, then lowered her hand slightly to reveal her horsy teeth.
'I heard - that awful boy - telling her about them - years ago', she said jerkily.
'If you mean my mum and dad, why dont you use their names?' said Harry loudly but Aunt Petunia ingored him. She seemed horribly flustered.

'Severus?'
A little smile twisted Snapes mouth when she said his name.
'Yeah?'
'Tell me about dementors again'.
'What d'you want yo know about them for?'
'If I use magic outside school-'
'They dont give you to dementors for that! Dementors are for people who do really bad stuff. They guard the wizard prison, Azkaban. You're not going to end up in Azkaban, you're too -'
He turned red again and shredded more leaves. Then a small rustling noise behind Harry made him turn: Petunia, hiding behind a tree, had lost her footing.

So Petunia was talking about Snape. Not James. Just thought I would post that.

I love how Jo connects little things like that. It makes me soo happy.
Everytime I find a piece of information, I go back to where it was hinted in previous chapters or books.
Everything even in the first book had a purpose!
