  • my ideal trailer would begin with the voldemort voice over (from the comic-con footage) stating that harry has allowed his friends to die rather than face him.

then maybe some clips from part one followed by some clips of shell cottage, gringotts, and very few battle scenes. and end it with harry showing up at the great hall taking off the invisibility cloak

i hope there arent as many featurettes and clips shown as there were for part 1.

Hmm I'm gonna go theatrical. Is it weird that for a teaser quite soon, I can see them doing something REALLY subtle like that 15 second voiceover for HBP? xD This is gonna take a while; I'm trying to think of something epic.

BLACK. "I know you are preparing to fight"

Shots of various people in the Great Hall. McGonagall. Lupin. Fred...etc. Fear and defiance in their faces. Silence.

    BLACK. "But know this..."

Shot of Harry coming into the Great Hall, defiance, motivation, and fear etched into his face.

BLACK. "Give me Harry Potter, and none shall be harmed. Give me Harry Potter, and I'll leave the school untouched."

Shots of Hogwarts students all standing up and raising their wands.

    McGonagall: "We're fighting."

    BLACK.

Suddenly, epic music begins to play as we see shots of the following:

Ron and Hermione running through the Chamber of Secrets

Harry running through Hogwarts as a window explodes besides him.

Neville throwing a spell, Luna dodging a spell, Ginny dueling

Voldemort shouting as he breaks the schools protections (from the June trailer)

    TITLE CARD: "The Finale"

    Hogwarts protection shield going down.

People running down the hills (from June trailer)

Shot of Voldemort with his Death Eaters running into battle

TITLE CARD: "Of the epic, worldwide phenomenen"

Shot of Hogwarts courtyard, full of duelers and spells flashing everywhere

Harry, Ron, and Hermione running from flames chasing them

    Giant explosion

All this as we hear Ron shout "We're the only ones who can end this!"

(Now everything speeds up as we hear Harry say "I have to die.")

Show young Lily jumping off a swing

A Voldemort tsunami rising in the air

    Snape backing away

    Bellatrix firing a spell

    Quidditch pitch on fire.

My ideal trailer would be released in three weeks in front of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Exactly. I want to see Narnia so if it was in front of it then i would get to see it in the theater. Also why wouldn't they release a teaser during Christmas time when everyone goes to see movies.

KJRiddle's description is really creative and beautiful, I really like how you incooperated the "I will punish every man/woman/child" line to the night of the potters death. :)
  • Thanks. I just think it should be reminding (all the deaths), foreboding (Voldemort's speech) and introducing (Harry at the Pensieve and the truth behind the Potter's death). Short yet powerful. But they've fucked the marketing for previous movies up, so I don't think it'll be even close to something like this ... :(

Personally I thought the quality of the trailers/spots of DH1 were subpar; they were just messy, quick-shots-with-epic-music kind of trailers despite the huge opportunities they had to make a trailer that's more than 3 seconds shots collected together and to have something a bit more meaningful. Till now I still find this trailer to be the most beautiful trailer ever made for a harry potter film.

Wow, I think we share the same opinion on that. That particular trailer contained so much depth, and really 'touched' the movie's heart, the philosophy and thinking behind all of it, showing what the movie is actually about. That is perfect marketing, and what the biggest mistake filmmakers/trailermakers make, is: wanting something to be epic. They did it with the final theatrical trailer for Prince, with the one for Hallows, and they just blew it. It was nice to see all those things, but it was nothing more than one, messy blur.

@Mamoun & devkris_10: haha, thanks, vote for justice!

Definitely, I admit that I was really excited about the DH trailers when they were released but that's only because they contain new footage. I absoutly hate trailers that show very quick shots of a bunch of random things; it's a really lazy job. I remember how I hoped they would use the third trailer for HBP rather than the final theatrical one in ads as it fits the tone of the film perfectly indeed and doesn't try to convince the audience that's going to be an action packed film (as the theatrical one did).

Another fine example for a beautifully-made trailer is inception trailer, while you couldn't exactly explain what the film is about in 2:30 minutes they did a good job showing the drama behind the story and not just focusing on the CGI or action scenes.

I guess trailers-making is an art by itself. :)

This is my favorite HP trailer as well.

DH1's was decent but quite messy.

I prefer a more subtle and deep approach to the core of a film and I want to see this in a trailer. But of course DH1 is supposed to be the beginning of the so-called "Epic finale" so I guess they had to make something 'impressive' with a lot of rapid, blurry action shots.
