I was a newsposter and moder on former russian hp fan site. Each self-respect forum has the rules. the simplest are:
- do not flood(the messages as IMHO, LOL and etc. are flood),
- unmeaning arguing (fighting) only by private mailing
- is you're creating new thread you must at first find out maybe there is(are) similar subject(s).
- there are special section - "Flame" - for discussions of films, music, games and others.
And there are punishments for the failure to comply with rules - warning, banning and blocking.
I'm asking admins to review official rules of this forum. It's quite unpleasant to read on the hpforum stories about dead cats and problems of puberty age.

It does get crazy here...too many new threads about things that are already started. I'm a mod at another site, nothing to do with HP, but it's good to keep things organized. Unfortunately this place had no way to do PMs, then maybe the arguments could be kept private. Also we need one specific OT thread, maybe it could be called 'The 3 Broomsticks', a place where everyone could talk about what's going on in their lives instead of putting it in threads that should be left to the on topic business.

He has a point though. Sometimes it gets annoying trying to wade through a topic that has gone completely off topic and becomes a chat thread. I'm like Richard, where I like that we talk about other things not just HP. But I think having one thread (that maybe could be stickied?) for general chat. And I think 'The Three Broomsticks' is a good name for it.....*lol*

I know sometimes threads are flooded due to the off topicness, but the thread can easily be brought back on topic if someone comments on it. The great thing about this forum is it is very relaxed and we have a great amount of dedicated fans here - news always gets on here. I never check Leaky, MuggleNet or Snitchseeker before I come here, because this forum is always up to date.

I do agree it is extremely annoying when I click on a thread and there's a huge argument going on. It's useless. We are all HP fans here so can't we all get along ? This is just my opinion, but I love the forum just the way it is.

I've only been here a while, and its so awesome.

For people like Tarantello to come in and tell us what to do, even if its Potter related, is so strict, unnecessary, and honestly: stupid.

I mean, yes, I can understand where he is coming from. But at the same time, all that stuff that he posted above is why this board is so awesome. We fight because we're board, and it provides some good entertainment.

AND THIS IS THE INTERNET BUDDY, WE ALL USE "LOL" OR "GTFO" AND STUFF LIKE THAT. That's how people talk on websites, so get used to it.

I do agree with the same topic thing. That I do like. But everything else just takes away the randomness and the awesomeness that is the harrypotterforum.

I like that the forum is sort of a free for all when it comes to opening new threads and letting the threads get off topic as long as the topic is Harry Potter. I actually don't care if people go off topic, but i do wish that if people want to talk about their life that it happened within certain threads only.

I also don't like for it to be controlling either. I always want to scream at the mods on some of the other forums when they say something is off topic when i don't think it is.

On the other hand, talking to someone like that just because they do want control, well, i don't really like that either. I mean i disagree that i want the Harry Potter threads to be more organized, but that doesn't mean i want the people who want organization to leave. It seems like a valid point. The thing is all of the other forums are like that. This forum is different.
