The Hobbit barely getting noms and TDKR being snubbed proofs that the Academy no longer cares about fantasy films.

The fact that Perks of Being a Wallflower didn't get nominated for absolutely anything reads to me that these are a joke. I didn't care about the Oscars last year and I definitely don't this year as well.

Also TDKR deserved atleast a nomination seriously.
  • KranenKranen Posts: 4,770 ✭✭✭✭✭
Honestly, I think lead actress is between Jennifer & Naomi. I really, really, really hope Jen gets it though.

Perks deserved a nomination, even if it wasn't Best Picture, that's a little disappointing. For me, it was the surprise film of the year, surprised the crap out of me. Shame on you Academy.

    Perks deserved a nomination, indeed...

... and Katheryn Bigelow deserves a Best Director nomination. I cannot believe she isn't nominated for best director!

I know! As good as Skyfall is, the music in it just doesn't compare to The Hobbit!

Personally, I think they're basing it off of Adele's "Skyfall" and the main Bond theme.

Howard Shore's Score for The Hobbit was definitely one of the most memorable of the year, it deserved a nomination.

Agreed. As little as I liked The Hobbit, the music was fantastic.

I feel the same for the film itself. I feel like that should have been included in the Best Picture category.

I can't remember any tracks outside the classic James Bond theme.

Actually, the score was very bashed, which is the reason why I'm glad that it's finally getting some recognition and appreciation..

Why do some of you have investment in a ceremony that is not about film but instead narcissism, celebratory antics of being rich, and just self congratulatory circle jerks? Why does it matter if the movies you love aren't nominated or nominated enough? Will nominations and wins make those movies better in your eyes? Will it somehow garner more interest by the masses in them? It is my opinion that the populace watches the ceremony not out of love for the medium being celebrated (as it ideally should be) but out of necessity for feeding the celebrity culture addiction.

What I'm saying is that all that matters is that you love the fantastic world of cinema.

So Crucify the ego, before it's far too late, to leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical. And you will come to find that we are all one mind, capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable.
  • WOW. So happy for Amour! Finally the academy giving proper recognition the foreign movies. Also happy for the number of nominations to Silver Linings Playbook. Not surprised by the love that Lincoln is getting. And I also won't be surprise if it wins (it doesn't deserve, though, but it is understandable). Hell yeah for NAOMI WATTS, with one of the most intense performances of the year :)

Glad to see some snub for Les Miserables (Best Director, cinematography and editing). Shocked that Bigelow was snubbed, same for Affleck. Expected, also, more love to Django Unchained.

By these nominations I believe we can perfectly conclude that the Oscar of Best Picture is between Silver Linings Playbook, Life of Pi and Lincoln.

Can't wait for the Awards. And people complaining: shush. You don't have to follow or watch. So let's stop whining.
  • PumpkinjuicePumpkinjuice Posts: 2,317 ✭✭✭✭✭

Why so little Hobbit love :((

3 noms isn't too bad. With its mixed critical reception, one could hardly expect much more "love".
  • yonythemoonyyonythemoony Posts: 5,638 ✭✭✭✭✭
It's not. I said that the score was bashed, which is the reason why I'm glad about the BAFTA and Oscar nominations.
