I like how, despite having Armie Hammer play the main character, Johnny Depp is still being billed as the main man. The power of a name, and the power of money. Disney obviously know who will bring in the money, and who will have people going to see The Lone Ranger.
Normally I wouldn't care much for this type of thing, but I adored Verbinski's "Rango", which was also a western, so I'm definitely going to give it a shot.
"At its current cut, it's likely a little too intense for your 4-7 year olds , as there are two scenes in particular that seem a little unsettling -- one involving offscreen cannibalism and another displayed as a silhouetted throat slitting. Will those scenes make it into the final cut? Probably, this is a PG-13 rendition of The Lone Ranger after all, but with that said, the initial impression could be made that it's all gloom and grit. Nothing could be further from the truth -- it's very light and only dark when the villainous Butch Cavendish strolls onto screen or is referenced by the characters and William Fitchner is absolutely incredible, leading to the strongest performance of this film; his makeup makes him hardly recognizable. In fact, because this is the 1800s, everyone has insane beards that make them unrecognizable, a delightful feat accomplished by the exceptional costume and grooming departments. The cinematography is excellent as is the score and surprisingly, the CG. If there was any gripe to be made, it's that around the 3/4 mark the pacing drags a bit, but this is unavoidable as it lends to building the final conflict of the film. There is a Tonto origin story that slows everything down a bit, but like I said, is absolutely necessary to the overall structure of the plot. There is one sequence that feels like it could be the final action piece that was actually slightly frustrating that it didn't end right then and there, but with a few laughs thrown in, the real climax hits and all I can say is, "strap yourself in for a wild ride". When people say, "The Lone Ranger", undoubtedly an image from the climactic finale will pop into your head and likely bring a grin to your face. The Lone Ranger is worthy of your July 4th movie going dollars, unless you weren't a fan of the PotC movies, then you might not like it, it's that simple."
Hammer is possessed of a natural charisma and a surfeit of hunky good looks, but he’s reduced to parodying a hero instead of being one. Why has no one used him correctly since The Social Network? It was one of the great performances of the last decade, and yet he’s getting shoe-horned into roles designed for lunkheaded hunks, not actual actors.
The movie’s climactic action sequence has both Tonto and The Lone Ranger doing their own version of Batman Begins’ horrible “I won’t kill you but I don’t have to save you” cop-out. I guess it's technically not murder. It's manslaughter, though. You still go to jail for that.
Yes, because that really matters. During the trailers showing before Man of Steel, Armie Hammer told us to stay until after the end credits for an exclusive extended clip. We did, and we were shown an interesting clip. It has been shown in the trailers, but it was of the two leads on the train. A good action set piece/sequence, by the looks of things; with humour throughout.
Movie was absolutely HORRRIBLE. Can't believe I saw this...Good thing I saw Man of Steel after(for the 7th time)to get that piece of shit out of my mind..

I want to see how this is going to do at the Box Office. It smells like John Carter to me.
Lord Stafford.
The movie did worse than John Carter (if you don't consider the 4th of July xD)
