Wow. I don't know what to think. Music was awful, and this trailer actually made me want to see it less. Might have to just stick to the book on this one.
Oh come on it's Jay-Z, Frank Ocean and Kanye haha It's a great song :P haha
Human beings in a mob What's a mob to a king? What's a king to a God? What's a God to a non-believer who don't believe in anything? Will he make it out alive? Alright, alright, no church in the wild

good ol' Frank Ocean
What is this? By definition the song is terrible because of those involved, but the lyrics seal the deal. Non-believers don't believe in anything, apparently. Oh, and grammar is not a strong suit for the songwriter. That is typical for the genre, unfortunately.
I think the movie looks... There's a lot of excess going on and it kind of leaves me hesitant to see it.

So Crucify the ego, before it's far too late, to leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical. And you will come to find that we are all one mind, capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable.
Fuck off, Ryguy. Don't edit my posts because we have a disagreement. I know you're massively insecure about your movie opinions, so don't take it out on me.

It's the sign of someone who can't take disagreement and instead of tackling it head on, the solution is to be passive-aggressive.

I probably disagree with you way more than anyone here and then some plus a country mile and a couple of light years, but I would never edit your posts.

So, on the subject of the thread--I realized I hadn't posted my thoughts, so here they are:
Baz Luhrmann films are really kind of hard to place your cards on. I think it looks incredible from what we've seen so far, very visually stunning and looks to have an emotional punch and some great stuff from DiCaprio, Maguire and Mulligan. However, the only one of Luhrmann's films I've really liked is Moulin Rouge and I didn't care for Romeo + Juliet or Australia or whatever so I'm not sure I will like this one in the end. This is always how his films look at the start even if they're lackluster in the theater. But it sure looks promising so far.
For me, Luhrmann and Burton follow a similar school of filmmaking. They are indeed visionary, but their movies are much stronger from a visual point of view than a narrative one.

Hopefully for this, since the amazing narrative already exists from the book, he'll be good.
Well, I'm disappointed. I was really looking forward to how this would turn out. I wonder whether this is, like HBP, mainly for financial reasons, or has there been a problem with filming and such?
It is suspicious. I wouldn't say that The Great Gatsby is a movie for masses. I was considering, clearly, a movie to compete in this Awards Season and that, by word of mouth, would take people to the movies. It's interesting that WB decided to push it to summer, distant from any Awards Ceremonies. I don't think this is good news.
Could be good, Could be bad...Baz Luhrman movies are always hit or miss with me...I didnt mind the music in the trailer but my god that last song was so annoying lmao

Lol right, I was like "come on now, what the fuck" with that last song.
I feel like the trailers haven't been good indicators because they've overpowered by music that didn't flow very well with the trailers. Scenes would probably seem better isolated.

She and Ryan Gosling were horrible in Drive.
