Uhhh...favorite movies um, let me see....all LotR, Shaun of the Dead, Battle Royale and being a gamer Scott Pilgrim was of course my favorite movie of 2010. That basically covers it, note Titanic while being a favorite of my childhood I 1. haven't seen it in years and 2. it's under romance, I don't think I can consider romance as a favorite subject. Now if I see it again, it may end up on the list but who knows.

And if he doesn't, I will! I'm probably lesser of a fan of TDK and Inception than NumberEight. I would even do battle with NumberEight to prove it.

Here goes: the entire last 30 minutes of TDK is terrible, and Inception's plot is full of holes due to its very nature, it lacks compelling characters, the action is poorly shot, Zimmer's music is repetitive, and the ending stank of pretentiousness.

I loathe TDK. I think it is one of the worst film and comic book adaptations ever made and is likely the reason why so much shit is made in the summer (comic book shit). It's a contrived mess with an omniscient character that destroys all suspension of disbelief. The acting sucks across the board sans Ledger, and even his performance isn't that great. The direction is atrocious, resulting in action sequences that would be invigorating if directed by someone with talent.

As for Inception, I've warmed up to it, but Nolan's misogyny is still on display.

Nolan is just not good at action, period, which is why I groan every time I see people call him the new Spielberg or something ridiculous along those lines.
  • NumberEightNumberEight Posts: 1,574 ✭✭✭✭✭
I agree. I have more fun watching Bay's action scenes than everything NOlan has done. The only shot of his that I like is of the falling van in Inception. Of all his flms, that's the only thing that stands out.

I don't think TDK and Inception are bad movies, I just think that they actually could have been as great as many seem to think with a more competent director. Nolan is great at coming up with neat ideas and having a lot of things happening simultaneously. Unfortunately people look at those things and call him a mastermind. All I see are great ideas ruined by sloppy execution.

I like films that have good ideas but aren't obsessed with said ideas. Nolan is like OH MAN DREAMS WITHIN DREAMS (within dreams) hey yo dawg he went into a dream to mess with someone else's dream but since we didn't see the top stop spinning it could have all been a dream! how clever!

Seriously, people always make fun of twists that have to do with it "all being a dream" but Inception is like the ultimate troll in this regard.

Nolan did what Spielberg never did. He made me a fan of one director. I'll take BB/ThePrestige/TDK/Inception over any movie selections you throw at me. It's all preference.

Nolan was so stupid that he didn't even use lucid dreaming, which would have been far more interesting.

That would've indeed been great but I loved what we got. There was so much to learn that I don't think he could've established another aspect without the audience just giving up. That would be a great thing to introduce in a sequel though.

Or a video game, but I think the window of opportunity, unless officially announced in the next year or so is out.

I still like The Dark Knight, especially the opening shots and the scenes with the Joker, but it does have its problems. It's too long, Maggie's death scene should have been more impactful and I dislike the climax and ending of it; the dialogue there is unbearably cliched, the Joker doesn't get a proper send-off and the action is confusing to follow. However, the scene with Harvey Dent and the kids was suspenseful.

Revenge of the Sith is my favorite Star Wars film because it's the only one, aside from Attack of the Clones of all episodes, with strong emotional content. The prequels aren't always well acted or written, but I felt that AOTC and ROTS had the strongest emotional content in the saga nonetheless, and the imagination on display in Revenge is just astonishing. It's also one of the greatest works of film editing that I've ever seen as the pacing is almost impeccable, and the final battle sequences are stunning.
