Star Wars... Prequel Triology or Original Trilogy?

In light of the new direction of the thread the topic has changed. Which Trilogy do you prefer? I actually get more enjoyment out of the Prequel trilogy while my favorite moments happen in the Original trilogy. Merry Sithmas.

Jar Jar Binks gave me a blowjob once...Heres what how I kicked him out of my apartment...

Jar-Jar Binks: Ooh mooey mooey I love you!
Ry-Gon Jinn: You almost got me to jizz! Are you brainless?
    Jar-Jar Binks: I snowballed!
Ry-Gon Jinn: The ability to snowball does not make you intelligent. Now get out of here.

    Haha, great !
Jar-Jar Brinks really was a horrible character from his bad CGI, humour, mouvment, voice...
-Jr-Jar Brinks makes a bad joke about chanceller Palpatine. He's found dead at the beginning of episode 2.
-Jar-Jar is killed in episode's one battle (such a shame !)

Personally I don't have a problem with Jar Jar, but I thought the jokes were funny. I make fun of twilight yet I enjoy it.

Jar Jar Binks eats what he thinks is a yummy tasty fruit, but what is really a reactive core from a blaster. His death is slow and painful.

    This is my favorite one

Holy snap I stayed up all night. I wrote the story to precede my short film about me being a Sith lord and ruling this dark galactic city on a planet that also shares a wilderness and plains region akin to lord of the rings... Everything from flaming swords to light sabers to the elder wand and poly juice potion gets told in this tale.

There is a lot to criticise besides Jar Jar Binks. He simply personifies the major problems of the prequels and so is an easier target. :p

I love the prequel trilogy more than the old trilogy as a whole, but my favorite moments happen in the old trilogy... Bring on the re-releases

The first Sith Lord using the rule of two was Darth Bane... Any connection?

I get the complaints and all, but for me the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. And I thought they got a lot better as they went. I choose to watch Star Wars for the art direction, special effects, music, story, characters, and Lucas' very well staged and executed action sequences.

ROTS is the dominate prequel in my eyes. AOTC and TPM are the bottom two. I'd rank them as:

    1. Empire Strikes Back
    2. Revenge of the Sith
    3. A New Hope
    4. Return of the Jedi
    5. Attack of the Clones
    6. The Phantom Menace

I don't hate or dislike any though.

Oh I see, sorry I'm being thick.

    My ranking:

    1. Revenge of the Sith
    2. A New Hope
    3. Empire Strikes Back
    4. Attack of the Clones
    5. The Phantom Menace
    6. Return of the Jedi

haha I used to be a fairly big SW Fan :3

    My ranking was always

    1) Empire Strikes Back
    2) Revenge of the Sith
    3) A New Hope
    4) Return of the Jedi
    5) Attack of the Clones
    6) Phantom Menace

But in all honesty I enjoy them all. They aren't as close to my heart as Potter but they are good to sit back and watch every so often and get enthralled in the story. :3

Hmm I rank them like this:

    1. Revenge of the Sith

    2. Return of the Jedi
    3. The Phantom Menace
    4. The Empire Strikes Back
    5. Attack of The Clones
    6. A New Hope

It's really unfair to A New Hope I suppose because I've seen it sooooo mannnyyy times.

I can't believe anyone would rank AOTC or PM higher than the originals. I mean, the only way you could possibly think they had a story was if you were actually brain deficient. Phantom Menace was basically the biggest, dullest plot-hole of modern cinema and Attack of the Clones had the most cheesy, unbelievable love-fest "plot" it was unreal. Revenge of the Sith, however, had a legitimate story to tell, without the Hollywood cliches of forbidden romance etc.

One prequel is fantastic. The other two or fanstastic for 6 year olds and the mentally disabled.

The only movie I would understand putting ATOC or PM over would be ROTJ. Someone might hate the ewoks just as much as jar jar, or more. Plus ROTJ has the same ending and situation as ANH with the Death Star 2, so someone might not like that.

But yeah, over ESB, ROTS, or ANH I wouldn't understand :/

I think the originals are incredibly overrated with bad dialogue and acting of their own. However before Potter, Star Wars was my favorite thing. Why? Because they're a shitload of fun, and I felt that way about Phantom Menace and Clones as well. And Return of the Jedi is borderline terrible with the only redeeming quality being the Death Star scenes. The ending itself was a catastrophe and the first two acts were a boring mess.

So yeah, I do think some of the prequel films are better than Return of the Jedi for sure. Also not sure how Phantom Menace was a plot hole of modern cinema but whatevs.
  • BaneBane Posts: 9,869 ✭✭✭✭✭
Clones' love story was in fact cheesy but hey thankfully there's a lot more to the film than just that. It stands out because it's bad, but I love the film for a plethora of other reasons.
  • BaneBane Posts: 9,869 ✭✭✭✭✭
Sorry, I've just been putting up with nearly 14 years' worth of "omgz how can u like dah prekwels they r so bad lol the love scenes lol originals 4 life" so yeah it's kind of annoying. I guess I was always one of those SW fans who never really gave a shit about the dialogue or performances as the only people in the originals that gave anything close to a legitimate performance were Harrison Ford and the guy who played Tarkin. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are fucking horrible actors but since they played lovable characters everyone either doesn't see it or they give it a pass.

Not to mention back in the 70's filmgoers didn't have a 2x4 plank of splintered wood shoved up their asses either. People used to watch movies for fun, or judge them on their own merits. Now it's just a clusterfuck of elitism and it feels like most film directors are frankly too terrified to be adventurous and creative. Then again, look what happened when James Cameron did that recently-- made a perfectly enjoyable action/adventure film and all people could do was make blindsided bitchfesteries about how it had plot elements from other movies.

These same people, if they like Star Wars, are complete hypocrites because A New Hope 100% rips off Akira Kurosawa's The Last Fortress in just about every way imaginable.

btw Braveheart that was more of a general rant rather than something directed wholly at you. You just sparked it. :p

Here's my ranking of Star Wars:

    Empire Strikes Back
    Revenge of the Sith
    A New Hope
    Attack of the Clones
    Phantom Menace
    Return of the Jedi.

I really enjoy the overall story and I like all of them for different reasons. BTW, Merry Xmas. :)

    I'm with Bane...

I love Phantom Menace! Darth Maul still scares me a little today... His lightsaber scenes are awesome. Vader is my favorite part of the Prequels but we don't get to see him in near as much lightsaber action as you could want... The prequels do a bar none excellent job with lightsaber duels... Revenge of the Sith being the greatest

It's The Hidden Fortress I believe, not the Last Fortress.

But yeah, I agree. I don't think ATOC and PM are better than any of the original, but I still like them.

Well I've got to say differently :
The original sequel was better as a whole than the prequel but the prequel had some scenes that you just watch rewatch rerewatch...
I prefer watching again Star Wars 4-6 than 1-3 but I love watching some sequences from the prequel. The best to me would be Anakin vs Obiwan duel not only because it has awesome CGI, great camera work, nice acting... but because the music itself tells the story and makes the scene emotional. I tried to watch it without the music. It definetly isn't the same....

But keep in mind that I do love the prequel. They fill a gap that was present at the beginning of Star Wars 4 and still were great movie. I just feel like original sequel is better than the prequel.

Only messed up story is C3PO. Anakin didn't even remember him in the original trilogy while it was supposed to be his robot. Is there an explanation or is it just a "mistake" ?

What's amusing to me is that people dig on the writing and acting in the prequels but in all honesty the prequels are way more emotional. When Anakin's mom dies, that is legitimately sad stuff.

~unpopular~ opinion, I guess, but I actually really like Return of the Jedi LOL. My favorite is Empire Strikes Back, but I would probably but Return of the Jedi in 2nd of 3rd place.

I don't hate Jedi I just thought it was an incredibly weak climax for this story.

I'd advise any prequel lovers here to watch the Red Letter Media reviews and you'll realize how terrible they are.

oh Jesus Christ this is exactly what I'm talking about. I've seen them and I think they're funny but you know, people can still have their own opinions. Just because one guy doesn't have a life and devoted all that time to tearing apart and nitpicking harmless sci-fi films that were made for nothing but pure entertainment doesn't mean that all of a sudden everyone should stop enjoying something.
